interview with mr. mann
Hello Mr Mann,
For my PLP project on a chosen career I was wondering if I could interview you. If so the questions are on teaching and go as following.
1. When do you get holidays, how many do you get?
2. Do you get flexible hours, how much?
3. Do you get paid sick leave, if so how much?
4. What would you say are some personal attributes that are good to become a teacher?
5. What key literacy, numeracy and ICT skills did you need?
6. What subjects were helpful to you in school to help you become a teacher?
7. What were some career pathways for you, studying as a teacher?
Thank you for your time, it was much appreciated and will be very helpful towards my PLP project.
Thanks, Grace Edwards.

Hi Grace,
No worries. I have answered what I can below. Hope it helps!
When do you get holidays, how many do you get?
We get 12 weeks 'holidays' a year - but the two week breaks in between terms are not really holidays as you will generally be marking or preparing for lessons.
Do you get flexible hours, how much?
There are no flexible hours with teaching. It is very structured as this is the way a school operates.
Do you get paid sick leave, if so how much?
I think we get around 8 or 9 days a year?
What would you say are some personal attributes that are good to become a teacher?
Patience, positive attitude, organisation skills, great communication skills just to name a few
What key literacy, numeracy and ICT skills did you need?
Obviously a basic ability to read and write. Also need to calculate time in each lesson (how long each activity will take) ICT is becoming an increased skill as more areas of teaching work is being placed on computers - the roll for example!
What subjects were helpful to you in school to help you become a teacher?
General subjects like English and maths. If you want to specialise is an area it would be a good idea to complete the subject at school. For example I am a Geography teacher so by completing Geography at school it put me ahead of the pack.
What were some career pathways for you, studying as a teacher?
Well I finished year 12 and completed an Environmental Studies degree, then a post-graduate diploma of education to become a teacher. Now I am completing more study so I can become a career counsellor at schools. The pathways are quite varied as there are many different roles you can choose within a school system.
Hope this helps!!
